Highlights about this post :

- Twitter
- Facebook
- College
- Hairstyle
- CCNA
- Naruto
- IBM’s The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC)
- Mozilla Campus Representative

I’m back on Twitter, thanks to TweetDeck! It’s an Adobe AIR application, which helps you to post on multiple Twitter accounts, and Facebook account.

Catch me on Twitter :-

And that brings us to Facebook. I must confess that I was very much intimidated with it’s interface long back, and hence had de-activated my account. But, TweetDeck helped me overcome this, and now, I’m even more “social” (though I still loathe the stupid quizzes). Few of my school & college friends have also joined Facebook, and are using their “REAL” names (unlike Orkut).

And that brings us to College. I’m currently in the middle of 5th semester, and expecting the main exams to get over by 24th December 2009. Also hoping for Campus Placements this semester or the next one. I might carry on with my current hairstyle for the interviews too.

And that brings us to Hairstyle. I’ve not trimmed my hair since mid of July, and I prefer to keep the reasons for the same with myself.

Update : Got a haircut

No, that doesn’t lead us to CCNA, but I’m going to talk about it anyway.
I started studying for CCNA a couple of weeks ago. I’ve finished ICND 1, and half-way through ICND 2. It’s really really interesting and I created my own lab with 2 Routers and 1 Cloud.

I’ve configured “Akatsuki” router properly, and it can connect/ping/traceroute to Internet. I used Microsoft’s LoopBack adapter and shared the Internet connection from the Wireless LAN.

Here is the layout :

You might have noticed weird names for the routers, and that brings us to the next topic, Naruto.
I’m currently hooked onto an Anime (“cartoon” for those people who don’t understand and don’t want to understand different forms of cartoons) named “Naruto”. I started with Anime, and I liked it so much that I even started reading it’s Manga (“comic” in Japanese).

I’m also engaged in a project making competition organized by IBM known as The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC). It’s mainly a Java based project, which involves Project Planning, Modeling, Coding and Documenting the software. Me, along with 3 of my classmates, are doing Online Library Management System under the team name – BlueShadow (cool haan?)

And the last topic for this post. My friend Vikram introduced me to “Mozilla Campus Representative” program from Mozilla (duh!). It’s about promoting and bringing awareness about “The Open Web” and “Firefox” in your college. How do we do that? Well, Mozilla gives us something known as a “Swag Pack”, which is better explained here -> http://www.thechetan.com/2009/09/now-i-am-mozilla-campus-representative/

So, that’s the end of my 1st ever, fully linked, highly educative update. See ya after an year or so. I’m so damn tired!
(Psst…Try to decrypt the title of this blog post ;)

How to PWN your friend? A n00b friendly guide for my readers from the master of PWNGES – a.k.a. The Pragnetizer!

0) Be a man!

1) Take a nap, and come online.

2) Check your contact list, and target your victim.

3) Make sure your victim is chatting with your other friend.

4) Go and ping both of them, and ask about their recent conversations, and make sure they aren’t personal.

Now for the main part. Make sure your target isn’t tech savvy and doesn’t know much about Google, Yahoo! and MSN.

5) Give your friend few lines which only you and your target talk normally, and tell him/her to paste it in their conversation box.

6) Wait for your target to faint.

7) GOTO Step-5.

8) Then ask your dear friend to paste whatever your victim is typing, and respond accordingly. Do this until your victim gets frustrated and goes to gym.

9) Roll on the floor laughing.

10) Tell your mum about the whole incident.

Optional step (To be taken only when your victim is a n00b in Short Message Service too) :

–Tell your victim that whatever messages he/she is sending to your friend to delete the previous chats (which you might be reading according to the victim) are getting redirected to your email account.

Congratulations! Your friend just got Pragnetized!!!

I would say it was more like an Endurance Test, making us wait for our turns to come and show our NFS style driving and Dirt-Bike style riding skills. Yes, I am sarcastic on this part. They made us go few meters (without acceleration) in front, and few meters in reverse, and Bingo! I PASSED!
For Bike, they told us to go straight, take a left turn, and get lost!

Service! The word which has been redefined by the IT people, atleast I have seen many such in Bangalore. They expect a lot from the staff working at the counter where they pay the bill. They want “Service”. Curse to the training given in their offices, they release all their anger on people like them and the auto-drivers.

You can’t expect quality from the staff, as they opt to choose this job because they have (maybe) no other vacancy.

I pondered upon this fact (told to me by my uncle), that we have no hesitation in paying extra in the mall for which we receive this kind of service and we bargain like a gladiator in a battle with the auto-driver for few bucks. Silly ain’t it?

Often I wondered whether I am introvert or an extrovert. Sometimes there are situations where you HAVE TO BE shy, like when your parents take you to their friends’ place, etc. When they offer you something to eat, YOU HAVE TO reject atleast for the first time (this is what I feel). And this kind of feeling, I put under Generation 2.

These days I have been observing the kids in my apartment, and my college friends. I categorize them in Generation 3. Their primary language is English. I am going to be a little blunt here by saying, no matter they want to or not, their parents too (who again want to or not), speak in English. Forced by the community? Maybe!
Their sentances like, “You have that book no?”, “You mad huh?”. Use of words like “Da”, which means “Dude” in Tamil/Kannada. Using words like “Guys” even for girls, when there is already “Gals”. Using “Dude” instead of “Dudette”.

Trying to speak in English has made others tag them “South Indians”, and this is precisely why people make fun of us.

Many a times, I have been called “Uncle” by these kids, why? Because there is no such word as “Bhaiyya” or “Anna”. They can’t call me “Bro” or “Dude” because they don’t know me well, also they use them only with those people who are close to them and are of same age.

Personally speaking, I am an extrovert with these kids, but how should I behave when I meet elder people or my classmates?

1) In which language should I speak? English or their mother-tongue? Speaking English will make them feel as I am trying to act smart (YES! Atleast that’s what I feel when someone is speaking with me even after knowing that we both know our mother-tongue very well).

2) Should I take what is offered to me in the first place itself, or should I wait for the next turn?

As Willy Shakey once wrote for Hamlet, “To be or not to be, that is the question;” Where I fall, is still a jigsaw to me.

(I am working on the follow-up article which is based on the use of English by people here)

Tomorrow, I am going to reach a milestone (at least that’s what I have heard) in my life. Drastic changes in me since I was born for sure. But sometimes I feel, 18 isn’t the correct age for calling oneself, “Adult”.

According to me, after 21-22 years, one really becomes matured (to an extent); because at around that time, one graduates from education and enters a new walk of life, where the person becomes somewhat independent, and takes control of his/her life. At the same time, it doesn’t mean to me, that a kid who is aged between “the time it starts talking” to “18″, is immature. From my view, the words coming out from the mouth of the person (be it correct or wrong) matter and not the age.

However, instead of giving a lecture on this, me better come backs to my life. Me exams started today, and will stretch like a vulcanized rubber till 15th July. After that me’s solitary holidays would start, and me is planning to waste (not exactly) the time by revising the basics of Linux (Red Hat), and learning Photoshop CS3 (which me had been postponing infinitely before).

I launched a new micro blog, Teen Tumblr as a mark to my new phase of life. Let’s see how far I am able to maintain it. And I am also a not so addict of Twitter. So you can catch me there also LIVE!

On my 1st participation in any of the competition held in college, in my 1st ever “Fest”, me and friend stood 1st, crossing all our seniors who were from 4th, 6th and 8th semester.

The competition was, Technical Paper Presentation, where we had to bark on a particular topic. The topic we chose was Web 2.0. After we completed our presentation, it was our Question/Answer time with the judges. One of the judge said, “First let me say that this is the best presentation I have ever seen so far.”

Then, the rest of the Q/A went fine. After we came out, we were like, what the hell did we speak, we couldn’t even re-collect that. It was on-the-spot. We didn’t cram/by-heart anything, and ofcourse were nervous, but had this much confidence that whatever was present in the slide, we had full knowledge of it.

After 4-5 hours, my friend came and told me that we came 1st
